Granville Street Pedestrian Zone: World Cup 2026 Guide
The City of Vancouver is closing five blocks of Granville Street to all vehicle traffic for the entire World Cup — from June 11 to July 19, 2026. This is the biggest pedestrian zone Vancouver has ever created and it will be the beating heart of the tournament in the city.
What's Happening
Granville Street from West Georgia to Davie (5 blocks) becomes a fully pedestrian zone:
- Outdoor screens showing matches
- Live music stages between games
- Expanded bar and restaurant patios spilling onto the street
- Street performers and fan culture
- Art installations and selfie spots
- Food vendors and merchandise stalls
This is not a ticketed event. It is free and open to everyone, all day, every day for 39 days.
The Best Spots on Granville
Bars You Want to Be At
- The Pint Public House — Multiple floors, dozens of screens. This will be match-day central. Arrive 2+ hours before big matches.
- The Roxy — Live music venue that will embrace the party atmosphere. Late-night scene.
- Donegal's Irish Pub — Smaller, more intimate. Good for watching with a tight group.
- Various patios — Every restaurant on these 5 blocks will have expanded seating on the street. The best patios will be first-come, first-served.
Best Strategy
For Canada matches, Granville Street will be absolute chaos. In the best way. Get there 3 hours early if you want a seat at any bar. Otherwise, stand in the street with thousands of other fans and watch on the outdoor screens.
For non-Canada matches, the atmosphere will still be electric but you will actually be able to find a seat.
How to Get There
- SkyTrain: Granville Station (Expo Line) drops you right in the middle of the pedestrian zone. Vancouver City Centre Station (Canada Line) is one block east.
- Walking: From BC Place, it is a 10-15 minute walk west on Robson or Nelson to Granville.
- Bus reroutes: All buses normally on Granville will be rerouted to Seymour Street (eastbound) and Howe Street (westbound) for the entire tournament.
What to Know
- Open all day, every day from June 11 - July 19.
- No re-entry issues — this is a public street, come and go as you please.
- Bathrooms: Public washrooms will be added but expect lines. Bars and restaurants have washrooms for customers.
- Late night: The zone will be lively until well past midnight on match days. Expect the energy of a block party.
- Rain: Unlikely in late June/July, but if it rains, the covered patios will be premium real estate.
