Best Belgian Beer in Vancouver
Vancouver's craft beer scene is strong, but finding proper Belgian beer requires knowing where to look:
Alibi Room (Gastown) — 10-min walk from BC Place Vancouver's best beer bar. 50+ taps with rotating selections that always include Belgian styles. Duvel, Chimay, and local Belgian-inspired brews. This is your bar.
St. Augustine's (Commercial Drive) — 20-min by transit Over 60 taps. Strong Belgian and European selection. Worth the trip if you have a non-match day free.
Tap & Barrel (Olympic Village) — 12-min walk Good Belgian bottles on the menu. Waterfront patio with mountain views.
Belgian-style local breweries:
- Parallel 49 (East Van) — Brews Belgian-inspired ales
- Strange Fellows (East Van) — Farmhouse and saison styles
- Four Winds (Delta, 30 min by transit) — Their Belgian quad won international awards
⚠️ Beer in BC is sold at private liquor stores (not supermarkets like in Belgium). For Belgian bottles to take home, try Legacy Liquor Store near Olympic Village or Brewery Creek Liquor Store on Main Street. Both have excellent Belgian selections.
Food
Vancouver does not have a Belgian restaurant, but you will eat well:
- Frites — The closest to proper Belgian frites is Fritz European Fry House on Davie Street. Not authentic, but satisfying.
- Seafood — Vancouver does incredible seafood. Rodney's Oyster House in Yaletown and the fish counters at Granville Island Public Market are worth your time.
- Waffles — You will not find a proper Liege waffle here. Accept this now. The waffle places downtown are tourist traps. Save your waffle cravings for home.

Practical Information
Currency: Canadian Dollar. Roughly 1 EUR = 1.50 CAD (check current rates).
Language: English. Vancouver has a small French-speaking community, and some signage is bilingual (English/French), but do not expect to get by in French. Definitely not in Dutch or German.
Tipping: 15-20% at restaurants. This is not optional. Servers depend on tips in Canada.
Weather: June in Vancouver is 18-22 C. Similar to a good Belgian summer day, but drier. Evenings are 12-15 C. Bring a light layer for the 8 PM kickoff.
Power: Canada uses Type A/B plugs (flat prongs, US-style). Belgian plugs (Type E) will NOT work. Bring an adapter.
Phone: Roaming from Belgian carriers is expensive. Buy a local prepaid SIM at the airport ($25-35 CAD/month) or use an eSIM.
Transit: SkyTrain is excellent. Compass Card, load $20-30. BC Place is at Stadium-Chinatown Station. Read our transit guide.
